A group of historical society local volunteers and others under the leadership of Joan Yeaton and Donna Gould have assembled a heritage cook book which is now for sale to benefit the work of the North Grenville Historical Society.
The recipes and colourful stories in this collection have been gleaned from local sources in North Grenville, including handwritten and published cook books, as well as from “friends and family elsewhere.” After all, every new person who comes here brings cooking traditions from their background to add to the mix that makes up our community. In testing recipes for inclusion in Butter the Size of an Egg, the compilers have gone on a culinary adventure to match original ingredients with their contemporary equivalents and to adapt often imprecise cooking instructions for the modern kitchen. A perfect gift for new arrivals in the community, for those who once lived here and moved away, for young cooks and those who seek to recapture the tastes they remember well. 191 pages $25 per copy, available at Grahame’s Bakery, B&H Your Community Grocer, and Brewed Awakenings, as well as the Christmas Markets on November 24th and December 5th. To order a copy, download and fill out the attached Order Form and mail it with payment to NGHS, 15 Water Street, Box 1239, Kemptville ON K0G 1J0. Payment by e-transfer to [email protected] is also available. NGHS QuarterlyThe Society’s principal periodical publication is the NGHS Quarterly, which—in principle—appears four times a year. In reality, it is published somewhat sporadically and contains articles of interest on local history by members of the NGHS and others, as well as information on the operation of the Society.
